Wow! We’ve had a very successful 21-Year reunion dinner at Madam Kwan’s restaurant in Bangsar last night! More than 40 of our classmantes turned up for this rare event, surpassing our expectations. (Our first reunion was more than 10 years ago.)
People travelled from great distance simply to keep in touch with old friends, chat and look back in nostalgia at old class photos. We have Hisham who came all the way from Kota Bharu, Lee Pon from Penang, Guna from Alor Setar, Anjalai and Chong Yuen from Ipoh, Bee Kheng from Muar, Ballan from Johor Bharu, Felice from Kota Kinabalu and Mathew from Miri. Special mention should go to Beng Leong who flew in from Hong Kong and Beng Beng from Brisbane, Australia. Thank you very much for your effort, guys and girls!
Most of all, we need to thank Yasmin for taking all the trouble to call each and everyone personally to make this reunion a success. At one point, it looked like we had to call it off due to poor response. Nothing like a lady’s touch to get things going.
Yasmin even took the trouble to create a power point presentation for us – a collection of old photos during those good old uni days – and presented each attendee with his or her own personal copy. Soma made some beautiful key chains as souvenir for this special event, and some of those who came contributed some extra food and beer to the already sumptuous dinner arranged by Boon Ping for us at Madam Kwan’s.
Everyone was so eager to talk and catch up with old friends that it was a monumental task for Soma and Yasmin, our two emcees for the night, to settle everyone down so that announcements can be made.
Ah…. all those good memories came rushing back! Those innocent… nay, naive years! Physically, some of us have not changed very much. Some, like Azlan and Beng Leong, have noticeably expanded sideways. And Teong Oon and Yong Guan were competing for the shiniest head category. We have a handful of Datoks and Datins, and at least one who is a real datok. Some have kids who are already in universities! Yes, that’s how old we are now, folks!
Before we ended the night, we had a group photo and extracted promises from Tamil and Felice to organise our next reunion events 2 years and 4 years from now respectively. We’ve even made a tidy collection of hard cold cash from almost all the attendees for the next one. Just so you know, we handed the money to Wai Yue.
All in all, it was one huge memorable night!
Yasmin brought along a professional cameraman to take pictures for the night, so you can look forward to these photos in future updates.
By the way, guys and gals, let’s keep in touch. Subscribe to this blog and you will receive all the updates the moment they are posted. By subscribing, it will also make it easier for us to keep you in the loop. We received some complaints that some of you did not receive any emails from us. Forwarding emails to a big list of names is often risky as some emails get lost in transition. Subscribing to this blog is one way of ensuring that you get our messages.
For your info, the committee members for this event were Boon Ping, Say Fatt, Soma, Surinder, Ranjeev and Tien Kwan. We also had inputs from Wai Yue and Swee Looi. And of course, our life saver – Yasmin!
P.S. Those of you who had taken some photos, please send them to us so that we can publish them here.
P.S.S. Please help us to reach out to everyone in our class by sending them to this blog and getting them to subscribe to it. We are aiming for an even bigger crowd in our next reunion. Tamil has promised us a big one!
This blog is created with the hope that it will serve as a focal point where all of us can come together and keep in touch.
